Smart Way Technology carried out an Oracle BI health check for Al Jomaih Bottling Plants, the Pepsi bottler in Saudi Arabia, reviewing the analytics platform across its data management, technical and dissemination layers and delivering a prioritised set of recommendations to improve performance and the day-to-day experience of business users.
Why a Platform Health Check Is Different
A health check is not a rebuild. The platform already worked and the investment in it had already been made; the question was where the friction was coming from and which adjustments would repay the effort. That changes what the deliverable has to be. Every observation is paired with a sense of priority, complexity and risk to business continuity, so the client can decide what to act on rather than being handed an undifferentiated list.
How the Work Was Structured
Data management architecture review — dimensional modelling, data pipelines, aggregation design, conformed dimensions and hierarchies, and the storage and retrieval strategy including partitioning and indexing
Technical review — the OBIEE parameters that govern performance: physical layer connection pools, initialisation blocks, system and session variables, caching, and BI Server and Presentation Services configuration
Data dissemination review — how data reaches people across upstream systems and the end-user layer of dashboards, reports and analyses, including usage patterns and report design
Findings and recommendations report — each observation documented with a recommended course of action, grouped by layer and sequenced so cost could be weighed against benefit
What Mattered Technically
The environment under review ran Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition 12.2.1, Oracle Database 12c and Oracle Data Integrator. Because the three layers depend on one another, we recommended that changes be applied incrementally against a measurable baseline in a test environment rather than in a single pass, using the Oracle BI Baseline Validation Tool for regression testing between the before and after states. That keeps each adjustment reversible and its effect demonstrable. Coordination with the database administration team was built into the sequencing, since several of the changes reach beyond the BI estate itself.
